12-Year-Old Kid Makes Bowties For Shelter Dogs To Help Find Them Home

Still, Darius didn’t let this stop him from dreaming big. When he was eight, his mother came up with a great idea. She had Darius start making bowties with his sisters to help improve his fine motor skills.

Darius absolutely loved sewing, and soon, he started spending most of his free-time making bowties! At just 11 years old, Darius founded the pet couture company “Beaux and Paws”, which specializes in unique and fashionable bow ties for people and their pet dogs and cats.

The kind-hearted dog lover himself, Darius was inspired to help animals after the devastating consequences of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Many pets who had been left without homes were transferred to different shelters across the country, and due to a lack of adopters, they often faced euthanasia.

The young CEO seems to know more about the right ways of doing business than many modern entrepreneurs.

Darius donated countless bow-ties to animal shelters and adoption centers in the USA and the UK. And his efforts are supported by more than 43 thousand followers on Instagram.

Darius’s story also started gaining more and more media attention. Darius has been featured on a wide variety of talk shows and news programs, including the Rachael Ray Show, Pix News 11, and the NY Post. In an interview with Pix News 11, Darius talked about the impact of his bowties.

The young man’s good deeds didn’t go unnoticed. In 2018, former president Barack Obama wrote him a letter commending him for his commitment to community service.

He has also received numerous awards such as the Leadership Award from “Leaders of the Future No Limits, Outstanding Achievement Award” from the WDIB Conference, the Youth Changer Award from “Excel Honors”, and he will be receiving the Jasmina Anema Youth Award from the “Black Cotton Foundation” in July 2019.
